🇬🇧We decide to go to les Fonts de Cervières through the col de Peas ( 2629 m) instead of col Malrif ( more direct ) due to the avalanche risk. This detour also allows us to go through the city of Aiguilles and its doctor’s office in order to check out some pains Claire has in her calf .

🇬🇧On the way we ‘pay a visit’ to the Pas de l’Ours landslide. Since two years it has progressively cut the only road between the high Guil valley ( and the villages of Abries and Ristolas) to the lower Guil valley and the village of Aiguilles. A new road has been built on the other side of the valley but the landslide still threatens to create a river dam and dangerous upstream and downstream flooding conditions .

🇬🇧Curiously locals are taking a certain pride in this phenomenon . ‘ The largest landslide in Europe’ ‘ the one in Le chambon is kid’s stuff in comparison’ ….in any case the landslide is still moving down a few cm everyday …. some work in perspective for Soletanche !

🇬🇧Arrival in Aiguilles . Very nice lunch break. The doctor who checks Claire is a huge ski touring fun and plans to do the Great Alps crossing next year . Claire has a small tendinitis but should be able to continue …we also go to the pharmacy to pick up a few médecine .

🇬🇧Between Aiguilles and Ville Vieille…

🇬🇧No other option than the road ….

🇬🇧We go from Ville Vieille to Fonts de Cervières through the magnificent hamlets of Meyriès and Rouet and the col de Peas. Long stage with 1300 m vertical climb over 15 km .

🇬🇧The south face departure means ski carrying …..one more time an opportunity to debate the merits of Alps crossing from South to North versus North to South …. our response ….it depends !

🇬🇧The superb village of Chateau-Queyras

🇬🇧We are able to put skis on near the hamlet of Rouet . Most of these hamlets are being very nicely restored

🇬🇧Looooong climb with no trace to col de Peas!! We wanted a ‘flat col’ to minimize avalanche risk… we got one! It should be called ‘fleeing col’ or ‘concealed col’ ! We finally can see it at the very last moment .

🇫🇷Nous quittons le Queyras avec regret . Il y a quatre jours nous étions au pied de l’aiguille de Font Scante.
🇬🇧We will regret Queyras ! . Four days ago we were at the foot of Font Scante.

🇫🇷The way down from col de Peas …not worse as we say in Haute Savoie . We are still at risk 3 mostly based on spontaneous avalanches due to higher temperature

🇬🇧Always à magical moment when we can catch the first glimpse of the refuge

🇬🇧Very quiet evening near the furnace with officially the highest performance wood furnace from the French alps so far .
